Parmatech Wins PM2TEC Grand Prize

June, 2004 - PARMATECH WINS PM2TEC GRAND PRIZE

Innovative tooling design, precision, special properties, reliability, and cost savings were characteristics of the winning entries in the 2004 International Powder Metallurgy Design Competition, sponsored by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF; Princeton, NJ). All entries were showcased at PM2TEC 2004, the MPIF’s International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials, convened this summer in Chicago.

Grand Prize: Injection molded laparoscopic jaws, Parmatech Corp. (Petaluma, CA)

MIM contract manufacturer Parmatech Corp. walked away with the MIM grand prize this year for a high-compression jaw used in laparoscopic vessel fusion, which Parmatech produced for SurgRX Inc. (Palo Alto, CA).

Its top and bottom jaws, anchor, and I-beam are molded in 17-4PH and exhibit as-sintered densities greater than 7.6 g/cu cm. These components would have been too costly to manufacture any other way, owing to their thin walls and complex geometries.
